On Tuesday 3rd May 2011 between 12 am and 4 pm Medienkulturzentrum Dresden (Centre for Media Culture Dresden) and friedrichstadtZentral (independent art centre) cordially invite all fans of culture and Europe to the “Cultural Fleemarket”.
In the course of “We Are Europeans” as part of a european cultural exchange initiated by the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation young grown-ups from Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia present their countries in the manner of potential EU-candidates.
By means of the Cultural Fleemarket they finish their journey across Europe and invite Dresdeners and Dresdenʼs cultural organisations and institutions to an intercultural exchange in the form of a Fleemarket.
“The core idea about the Cultural Fleemarket is a symbolic exchange of cultural goods,” explains Felix Liebig, project co-ordinator. “Every single visitor is asked to bring an individual culturally loaded item that fits into his or her pockets.” These items will be offered and bargained on the Cultural Fleemarket. “Our guests from the Balkan and the local activists then start to discuss their individual visions for Europe first and later shape a co-operative european vision.”
Kristina Schoger, head of the Department for European and International Matters in the Office of the Mayor of Dresden, agreed to welcome the guests from the Balkan at the event. As representatives of Dresdenʼs culture Kultur Aktiv e.V. (cultural organisation), Societaetstheater (a citizen-run theatre), The International Guardens of Dresden and Der Werkstattladen (The Workshop-Shop) will be present. Other organisations and cultural workers in Dresden interested in taking part in the Cultural Fleemarket are welcomed to call Felix Liebig under 0351 / 4662766 until 21st April 2011.
Apart from the to and fro of the Fleemarket the visitors will be served culinary classics of Dresden. The event will be held in english language. Admission is free.
The “Cultural Fleemarket” is being organized by Medienkulturzentrum Dresden. The project is realized by Polska Fundacja im. Roberta Schumana in co-operation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Robert Schuman Foundation, co-funded by the European Union.
